Assura at a glance
Assura is a basic insurer with a clear price focus, and in some premium regions it is among the cheapest. For a long time Assura used the "tiers garant" system (you pay the bill first and claim it back). Since March 2024 doctors, pharmacies and labs can send their invoices directly to Assura; you then receive a statement and a bill for your deductible and co-payment. Some providers still bill you directly. In customer surveys Assura has come last at Comparis three years running.

Assura — FAQ
Do I have to pay doctor bills myself at Assura?
Mostly not any more. Since March 2024 Assura pays invoices from doctors, pharmacies and labs directly when they send them to Assura; you get a copy and later a bill for your deductible and co-payment. If a provider bills you instead, you pay and submit the invoice via the app, the portal or by post.
Why is Assura cheap in some regions?
Premiums are set per insurer and region, so no insurer is cheapest everywhere. For basic insurance the legally mandated benefits are identical at every insurer. Check your own postcode in the premium calculator before switching.
How do I switch to or away from Assura?
Basic insurance: your cancellation must reach the insurer by 30 November (registered mail is safest), and you switch from 1 January. With the CHF 300 deductible and the standard model you can also switch for 1 July if your notice arrives by 31 March. Supplementary cover follows the policy terms; by law you can cancel at the end of the third policy year and every year after that with three months’ notice (Art. 35a VVG). New supplementary cover involves health questions, so never cancel before the new cover is confirmed. We can handle the switch for you.
Do I pay more premium through insurance-guide.ch?
No. Basic-insurance premiums are officially approved and identical whether you sign up directly or through us. We are paid by the insurers via commission; how that works is explained transparently on our advisory page.
