Premium calculator — FAQ

Where do the premiums come from?

From the official 2026 premium data approved by the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH, Priminfo), served via the open primai.ch API. These are exactly the premiums you would pay directly at each insurer — broker commissions do not change your premium.

Why is the cheapest insurer not automatically the best?

Basic insurance (KVG/LAMal) benefits are identical by law — differences are in service, billing, English-language support, apps, and how readily claims are approved. And if you later want supplementary cover, it can pay to optimise basic and supplementary separately. That is exactly what we check in the free consultation.

What does "with/without accident cover" mean?

If you are employed at least 8 hours per week, your employer already insures you against accidents (UVG) and you can exclude accident cover from your health insurance — saving a few percent. Self-employed and non-working people need it included.

Which deductible should I choose?

Rule of thumb: healthy and rarely at the doctor → CHF 2,500; regular treatment → CHF 300. The break-even is typically around CHF 1,800 of yearly costs. Our franchise calculator works out your exact tipping point.

Until when can I switch with these premiums?

These are 2026 premiums. To switch from 1 January 2027, your cancellation must reach your current insurer by 30 November 2026. The 2027 premiums are published by the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) in late September — our premium alert notifies you automatically.
